Expanding the Interfaith Tent in Davis, CA

Vision

To increase understanding and respect among all faiths in Yolo County based on the principles of religious pluralism.

Mission

To create a welcoming tent for all people in our community to nurture a sense of compassion, respect, and appreciation and to foster learning and understanding among the three Abrahamic traditions.

Values

We acknowledge that Judaism, Christianity, and Islam share a belief in one God and honor a common ancestor in faith, Abraham. From our shared Abrahamic foundations, we aim to increase understanding and respect among all faiths in Yolo County.

We also recognize that in today’s world, we must expand our tent and welcome all people of goodwill, regardless of their religious affiliation, to join us.

Our Story

Promoting Interfaith Cooperation

The Celebration of Abraham educates the local community about the three traditions and promotes interfaith cooperation to improve the community of Yolo County.

This is accomplished primarily through an annual community gathering where participants learn about one another’s faiths. We reflect on how each of the three traditions addresses universal themes.

The Celebration of Abraham also collects funds and volunteers workers for community benefit organizations. For example, we have raised funds and labor necessary to build local Habitat for Humanity homes and funds for emergency relief in the Philippines after Super-Typhoon Haiyan.

Living into Religious Pluralism

The Celebration of Abraham is based on the idea of religious pluralism, the energetic engagement among people of diverse religious traditions.

The Celebration of Abraham promotes the active seeking of understanding across members of three major faiths traditions, Jewish, Christian, and Muslim, through interfaith dialogue among people who are committed to their own traditions.

The dialogue is cooperative, and constructive and acknowledges that we can build bridges by fostering respect, building trust, and creating empathy among different religions.
